Botanical Sensations!

This post is following the development through a trends project with the title 'Psycotropical'. From primary photos to final samples on headers the post will show you my developments and final samples towards a collection for fashion.

A mysterious wonderland unfolds over the dark dull forest floor, leaving fabulous luminous colours splashing out of the greenery. Bursts of berry pink strike out of glossy green vegetation with intricate electric oranges and flakes of enchanted blue. This, creating a rich, lustrous spread with a sensation to touch the tightly embellished surface. Examples contain spiky characteristics and close up fascinations of the inner stigma of the flower. (Trend statement)

Primary photos of the Foxglove flower, and the experimentations of painting using flower heads.

Further development from primary photos of the Passion Fruit flower (top left), leaf details (top right), and geometric patterns taken from the Eden Project Biomes.

Colour pallet with gouache paints and yarn wrappings help visualise colour combinations and proportions.

Drawing small details of photos and materials, experimenting with scales of pattern and density on the paper.

Material statement: Precious plastics are concocted through a deep density of fine stitches moulding the textile together. Amongst this, jelly-like surfaces develop with intertwining matalics and hints of glittery sparkle exploding out of the indented centre of a complex flower.

Beaded experiment on an organza smocked background.

Smocked experiment following the effect of the creases and double layers of organza.

Final piece.

Showing the manipulation of the smocked sample, this affecting where it can hang on the body and where the folding would be suitable on a garment.

Final sample. Focussing on the richness of colours and the tightness of ridges made on the surface of a smooth fabric.

Final sample: A placement embroidered piece showing a floral theme motif and the sparse vs dense combination of beading.

Final sample: A more 3D abstract piece with homemade long beads on a large scale.

Final piece.

A zoomed in view of the French knot detail and metallic machine embroidered centre. Following themes of gloss and jelly like surfaces against intricate details of floral patterns.

Final sample: Hand embroidered satin stitch, Irish machine stitching, and coloured matt tape on a clear glossy plastic ( recycled from a tent window).

A zoomed in view focusing on embroidered areas.

Final piece.

Alternative view highlighting the gloss shine from natural light.

Shot enhancing the 3D element of the feather spikes and the contrast of the gentle pale embroidered satin stitch.
